Rough Drawings from December 15

I’m glad Christmas is over. Now I have time to post these things. Haha. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.

I just had my other wisdom tooth removed yesterday so I really can’t do much but this. 😛

I can’t even laugh, my stitches would hurt. So I should avoid funny things on the internet.

These are my rough drawings from December 15, the day my two friends (Angelo and Abdul) and me went to the studio to practice animation, though we didn’t have to.

They practiced animation. I didn’t. Haha. I thought I should practice drawing more, so I just drew them the whole time.

We ate breakfast together. I drew Angelo while waiting for my noodles to cook.  This doesn’t look like him, though. Just his pose, hair and scarf.

My objective was to capture poses as quick as possible and to keep them rough. I need to work more on my anatomy, that’ I’m aware. Also, foreshortening and perspective.

But I miss drawing faces. I tried to draw Abdul while he’s busy finishing his in-between assignment. I’m glad it looks like him. I thought it wouldn’t because I didn’t make him stay still. It’s not easy to draw a moving subject and it’s been a while since I last drew a face -and from life, as well.

Today I decided to color these drawings digitally. I’m  doing one of them right now. I’ll post them here when I finish. 🙂

An-Artwork-A-Day, Day 40: Soccer

(still part of my “late posts”)

I drew these last May 25. At my brother’s soccer game. Of course, I drew these before the soccer game —because I had to watch the game.

 

 

I try to draw my subjects as fast as I can because every time I draw, I never let people know what I’m drawing. I’m challenging myself to capture things as fast and as accurate as possible. I obviously need to work on it harder.

An-Artwork-A-Day, Day 39: With Urban Sketchers Philippines

It was last May 24. (this is one of my so-called “late posts”) I got up early in the morning because I wanted to join the Urban Sketchers Philippines sketchwalk event to celebrate their third anniversary.

It was a nice summer day, I took a long walk around Makati until I reached the venue, which was at Jaime Velasquez park, the same place of the Salcedo Saturday Market.

I went there alone, because I wanted to get to know people of the same interests. The way to find out who the sketchers were was to just simply take out your sketch materials and sketch. Soon enough I met a new friend and the organizers of the event found us.

I have never felt more relaxed. It’s a nice day and we were free to choose what we want to sketch. The aim of the group was ” to share a glimpse of the beauty (and not) of our cities or otherwise about life through our sketchbooks.” I don’t normally draw city structures and other objects. I usually draw people. I have to practice drawing different subjects.

This is my favorite part (also taken from their Facebook group “about” page):

“It has less to do with skill level or technique. What is more important is experiencing the process of looking, seeing, feeling and recording on paper.”

I just joined their Facebook page a week before and was really excited to go, even if I don’t know anyone there.

I made two sketches. One was a group of people sitting on a bench in front of me. Another was a of fire tree petal I saw fallen on another bench.

these are the group of people sitting in the bench in front of me, they don’t move much for hours so it’s alright. I was in a hurry to finish, though, because the sun was scorching on my arm

 

I used watercolor, unfortunately, I guess the paper was made for dry media so it easily wrinkled up. Also, the color absorbs too quickly that you can’t undo a mistake.

An-Artwork-A-Day, Day 38

Drawing from life: musicians.

While waiting for my friend at the mall, I sat at the food court where there’s a band playing. They were composed of only three members: 1 singer, 1 guitarist, 1 percussions. Because I got nothing to do, I just sketched each one of them. Extremely rough sketches, since it’s hard when they’re moving. And also, the last one, the percussions dude, I think he noticed what I’m doing, he looked uncomfortable so I didn’t get to really finish his.

Day 17

I decided to use a media that I’m not used to using: markers. (And for this particular drawing, I only used one color. :P)

For reasons I don’t want to reveal yet, I’ve been very busy these past few days and I just can’t sleep very well. So, while drawing, I was, I think, 60 percent groggy.

But, because there is not much to do and I really can’t sleep even if I want to, I just distracted myself by drawing some people around me. Most of them didn’t know that they’re being drawn, except for the boy in the pink shirt, who is my youngest brother. I was meaning to color all the other sketches, but I just couldn’t focus anymore.
